When the eyes of the heart are opened, the creation is revealed as it really is… The body of divine light.
Andrew Harvey
What is the heart chakra?
The Sanskrit word for the heart chakra is Anahata and can be translated into “unstruck”, or the place of the soul. The heart chakra is the fourth chakra of the body’s energy system, and it serves as a bridge between the lower and upper chakras, integrating the physical, emotional and the spiritual dimension of oneself. The color of the fourth chakra is green and pink, and the element associated with the heart chakra is air.
The Heart Chakra is the gatekeeper for emotions and is focused on connections with others, empathy, forgiveness, joy, self-love, self-acceptance, and compassion. A healthy and balanced heart chakra allows us to feel unconditional love towards other beings and ourselves. This does not mean that we are all giving and self-sacrificial. A balanced heart chakra also means we have the capacity to know when and how to set healthy boundaries in our life.
Physically the heart chakra is located right in the center of the chest, and directs its energy through the hands and thymus gland. The physical organ associated with the heart chakra is the heart, circulatory system, lungs, chest and hands. Any imbalances in the heart chakra may physically manifest as poor blood circulation, low or high blood pressure, or/and circulatory problems.
Other symptoms of an unbalanced Heart Chakra might be:
- The feeling of being disconnected from other people
- In relationships you feel emotionally cold and distant
- You attract and allow toxic relationships
- You live through others
- You feel afraid of being alone
- You have a need to please other people
- You feel it is difficult to forgive and you hold on to grudges
- You often feel jealousy towards other people
- You engage in self-criticism.
- You believe that you are a victim
- You have a hard time to give and receive love
- You feel mistrust for yourself and others
- There is a heaviness in your heart
- High blood pressure, back tensions, heart diseases.
Still unsure if your Heart Chakra needs to be healed and balanced?
Ask yourself these following questions:
- Am I in a loving relationship with myself and the world around me?
- Am I open to give and receive love in a healthy way?
- Am I criticizing myself and other people a lot?
- Am I able to see all the love that surrounds me daily?
- Am I still reliving the traumas in my life and holding on to it?
- Am I able to forgive myself for my mistakes?
- Am I able to forgive the people that have caused me pain?
Do you want to restore balance to your heart chakra and experience more love, kindness, and compassion in your life? Learn these powerful ways to open and heal your heart chakra through the power of sound.
How can the heart chakra be restored into balance through sound?

An effective method to restore balance and health to the heart chakra is with sound healing. You can read more about how sound healing works and why it works here.
When sound is used to heal the heart chakra, you or the sound healer can use different vibrations from instruments, frequencies, vowels and/or mantras that are in resonance with the heart chakra. Natural sounds such as wind moving through the tree or a breeze playing in the grass will also be a good ally to balance the heart chakra. Keep reading and you will learn about each and one of these sound healing tools and how to use them in your daily life.
- Key: F + F#
- Instruments: String instruments, wind chimes.
- Frequencies: Solfeggio frequency 639 Hz and 594 Hz.
- Seed mantra: YAM
- Vowel: AH
Healing the heart chakra with instruments
The musical note or key that resonates with the heart chakra is F and F#.
This means that tuning forks, singing bowls, gongs, didgeridoo, or any other healing instruments tuned in the key of F and F# will be in harmonic resonance with the heart chakra and have the power to restore it back into balance and health.
The heart chakra is especially affected by string instruments such as violin, cello, guitar, lyre, sitar and veena. These instruments are highly expressive, and so is the heart. It is no coincidence that we say “pulling my heartstrings” when someone is stirring strong emotions in us.
Whenever your heart is in need of healing, balance or emotional release find a song in our library or your playlist that you like that has one or several string instruments in it. Now close your eyes and tune into your heart. Notice any emotion or sensation that arises within you as you listen. Feel how your body responds to the music. Are there any tightness, tension or heaviness in your chest? Are you storing any unexpressed grief that wants to be released?
Allow any emotion that comes up, to come. Just observe for a moment. If you feel safe and ready, feel into what is present in you, without running away from your emotions. Just hold yourself and breathe through whatever is there, for as long as you need it. Choose to be there for yourself with love and compassion.
When and if you are ready, allow any emotion to be expressed and released in a way that comes naturally to you. Follow what your heart is telling you that you need. It may be an urge to cradle yourself in a back and forth movement, hugging yourself, crying, screaming into a pillow, laughing, dancing, singing…Whatever impulse that comes, go for it.
Another good way to release and transform your emotions is through breath and movement. You may do a “Heart Coherence” breath exercise as you listen. Place one hand on your heart as you inhale on the count of 5, and exhale on the count of 5. Do this for 5 minutes. Youtube has several videos that show you how to do a heart coherence breathing exercise.
You can also dance, shake and just move your body naturally as you listen to the sound of string instruments or instruments played in the key of F/F# to help you move dense energy from your heart and transform it.
Healing the heart chakra with frequencies
In the universe there are two primary elements of vibration which are sound and color. Each chakra is associated with a unique combination of these two primary elements. The heart chakra is associated with the color green and the frequency 639 Hz.
Listening to the solfeggio frequency 639 Hz, will assist your heart in returning to a state of harmony. The reason 639 Hz is a good tool for healing the heart, is because this particular frequency is in harmonic resonance with the subtle energy system of the heart chakra.
639 Hz (Fa) – Connections & Relationships
639 Hz is a frequency that is full of love, harmony, and positivity. Listening to 639 Hz can help you to create harmonious interpersonal relationships. This tone can be particularly useful if you’re dealing with any relationship troubles, or if you’re having issues with family members, friends, or even colleagues.
This tone will help you to become more empathetic, tolerant, and loving with those around you. It’s no surprise, therefore, that this tone relates to the heart chakra. An open heart chakra allows you to freely give and receive love from others.
Healing the heart chakra with nature

The element of the heart chakra is Air. The air element is associated with decision making, cooperation, freedom, and expansion. Air is also intimately connected with the breath, and through breathing all living beings are connected. This makes breathwork a powerful tool in healing the heart chakra. To heal the heart, go outside on a windy day and listen to the wind blowing through the natural elements around you. Find a place where you are relaxed and feel safe. Now spread your arms towards the wind, breathe into your heart and imagine the wind swiping away all tension, stress and pain. Imagine the wind penetrating your body and taking away the burdens of your heart.
Healing the heart chakra with seed mantra or vowel
There are different vowels and seed mantras that you can sing or listen to in order to balance the energy flow in your heart chakra. The vibration of your own voice infused with intention is a very powerful sound-healing tool.
In the eastern part of the world, the vibration of each chakra is associated with their Beeja or seed mantras. And in the west, each chakra is associated with a vowel.
A seed mantra is a one-word mantra used to strengthen the energy system of the body. The seed syllable used for the heart chakra is YAM (as in YAWN). The sound and frequency of YAM will assist in strengthening the heart, lungs and circulatory system in your body.
The vowel associated with the heart chakra is AH.
To experience an internal sound bath try to hold and extend the sound AH. You may chant the vowel AH in a single tone, use a scale or melody to make it easier to repeat the vowel over time. Notice any internal sensations as you do.
The sound “AHA” is an extension of the heart chakra vowel “AH”. Making the sound “AHA” is stimulating for the hormonal system.
When the sound of “AHA” is extended even more we get “ A HA HA HA HA HA”, creating the sound of laughter. There is no better way or medicine for healing the heart than a good laugh. Science has proven that laughter comes with great health benefits for the heart such as:
- Boost your immune system
- Decrease the risk of a heart attack.
- Prevents heart disease.
- Helps you lose weight.
- Reduces blood pressure.
Conclusion
If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.
Nicola Tesla
There is a symbiotic relationship between light, color, frequency, sound and the chakras in our body and our consciousness.
We are musical beings, deeply woven into the symphony of life, and our body is the instrument we use to play along. The combined complexity of our physical and energetic beings is what makes up the instrument, our body. The purpose and challenge of our life are to master and finetune our personal instrument. When we have tuned our instrument to the harmonic resonance of life, life becomes the most beautiful song. And the more people that fine-tune their instrument, the sweeter the symphony of life becomes for everyone and everything participating in life.
There are many different sound techniques you can use to restore balance to your heart chakra, and again your overall health. It is also important to note that every individual is unique, and not one technique, sound or modality works for everyone. The best way to figure out what works best for you or your client is to listen to the body and feel the changes invoked through sound. Do more of what works, and do less of what does not work.
